The Funky Farmhouse is a straw bale construction, finished with adobe. We built this house when we first arrived at El Toral and it´s been our home for 11 years. It’s rustic, quirky and has fantastic panoramic views across the valley.
The electricity comes from the sun via solar panels, so it´s limited to the basics (that means no hair dryers or straightners so you have more time and energy to relax and have fun 😉
The water is pumped up from our own spring and is fresh, chemical free and tastes wonderful. We just ask that you use it wisely and don´t waste it.
The hot water is heated by a solar thermal system. If the sun don´t shine you might have to light the woodburner to heat the water tank. Don´t worry, we´ll be around to help and advise with that.
Right outside is the pool so you can cool off in the height of summer. Other guests also have access to the pool from 12pm to 2pm and from 5pm to 7pm, so you can enjoy your personal space and also, from time to time, enjoy the opportunity to meet like-minded people (you, know, the ones that made a conscious decision to embrace the low impact life for a few days…just like you 🙂
